In a lot of products, a brand name means little and carries no guarantee. In personal timepiece manufacturing, however, this is not the case. Everyone wants to be able to count on this necessary device, in whatever lifestyle they may have, and so it is very common to choose a timepiece based largely on name and reputation. There is good reason for this, for the most part; products have stood the test of time, and are well known for a reason. While this is not always the case, no one can deny that Rolex makes a product you can depend on.

What We Like about Rolex
This company has far more than just a name to support its substantial reputation. It is one of the most frequently timepiece product featured on TV and in movies; it has also been featured in industry specific magazines like InSync. This acclaim is a result of much expertise and dedication; all Rolex watches, in fact, come with a guarantee of perfection. This guarantee is made possible by a number of features, including a privately designed and personally copyrighted internal movement that helps make these some of most precise timepieces on the planet. They still hold the record for the most specific chronographs for personal devices. This company has partially made its name on innovations like their personal movement, or the first water resistant case and men’s watch. Though today the name is associated almost entirely with extreme luxury, this is not to say that their designs are not durable or ready for tough conditions. Indeed, this company continues to make sports pieces as well, suitable for extremes like diving and mountain climbing. Though many think that their lifestyle does not fit such an elegant timepiece, they may want to think again. A Rolex can be far more than just an eye catching accessory or status symbol.

Some Things We Don’t Like about Rolex
Though this is a company that has well earned its reputation, it is hard to say that it completely deserves all the attention that it gets. It does come with quite a guarantee, this does not necessarily translate to a timepiece that everyone can appreciate. For the most part, these devices have limited functions, and do not provide much more information than the time and sometimes date. Those who find analog displays difficult to read will be frustrated with their catalog’s selection. While there is a lot to like about this company, it is hard to say that it exceeds the associations of its status.
History of Rolex
The founders of Rolex, Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis were always in the business of personal timepiece manufacturing, but it was not until several years of experimentation and experience that they first formed and marketed under the name that we know so well today. At first they simply placed Swiss movements into standard mens watches cases, and sold them to jewelry stores to be personalized with the store’s name, but after gaining confidence, they expanded the business. Though first began in London, the company soon moved to Geneva, Switzerland to be closer to the industry’s center, and has remained there, both physically and in reputation.
