Raymond Weil

The market for luxury mens watches is a little bit crowded. There are literally hundreds of makers of extremely fine timepieces from all over the world. Even if you limit yourself to only shopping for Swiss makers, you really haven’t limited your choices much at all, as there are still dozens upon dozens of makers, almost all of whom make high quality timepieces that are beautifully and technically advanced. With this many choices to make and this many brands to distinguish from, it’s easy for everything to start to look exactly the same. Since so many people reach for a luxury design as a way to stand out, this can be a bit of a problem, unless you choose a maker who is defined by independence.

What We Love about Raymond Weil

According to Raymond Weil, independence is a state of mind, and this philosophy has come to embody the company and all of their designs. This means that each timepiece they produce is truly distinctive in ways that other brands aren’t. This includes the use of new materials, such as carbon fiber, as well as producing beautiful designs that truly reflect and independent sense of style. Also important are technological advancements and complications that truly give these devices personality. One of our favorites is the jumping hour movement, which features a single minute hand and a rotary display of the hour at the 12 o’ clock position. This not only makes it easier to read time, but causes the whole design to pop.

But despite the fact that these timepieces are unquestionably unique, that doesn’t mean that they are too “out there” for most consumers. Many designers use the guise of independence to create accessories that take creativity further than some are comfortable with. This can often result in people being afraid of new designs, because they associate new products as being strange and unfamiliar. But Raymond Weil watches prove that there is a difference between being independent and indulging in strange experimentation. That means that any device you purchase from this country will stand out, but will still be immediately recognizable as a high quality luxury timepiece on par with any in the world.

Some Things We Don’t Like about Raymond Weil

While there’s no question that this brand values independence, other values such as affordability are not really something they focus on. Of course many people simply aren’t looking for low prices when shopping for a Swiss luxury mens watch, but there’s no question that this particular company’s pursuit of excellence and independence comes with a price tag. Again, for some people high price is a part of the luxury buying experience, and something they would prefer not to have to deal with out. But for others, getting the best value is a concern.

History of the Brand

While the history of Raymond Weil is not as long as other Swiss makers, they’ve have still managed to achieve a reputation of quality and vision in a relatively short span of time. Created by a man of the same name as the company, this maker opened their doors in 1974. Since then, they have dedicated themselves to making the highest quality timepieces in a way that stands out and stays true to their commitment to independence. They have also invested in research and development, in order to ensure that they stay on the cutting edge for years to come. Unlike so many other makers of timepieces, this company has always been and still remains under family control. The third generation is now a part of the company, and they hope to continue this tradition of homespun excellence.
