Rado

In many cases, it’s easy to forget the technology that goes into making our everyday lives. The overabundance of advanced ideas has somewhat desensitized us to the incredible amount of work and beauty that’s inherent in many of the technical aspects of things we take for granted. However, that does not mean that technology or its advancement are in any way a lost art. This is no more evident than in the timepiece business, where mechanical advancement is still very much alive and well. There are in fact dozens of makers that specialize in bringing the latest and greatest advancements to the public. This is one reason why we really like Rado.

What We Love About Rado

There are few makers of anything that have the same dedication to research and particularly to material advancement that this company does. We really like how they bring the latest in their research directly to the men’s watch market. While most companies are still produce timepieces made of silver, gold, and most commonly stainless steel, this manufacturer feels that these are dated materials no longer suitable to making high quality timepieces. Their number one complaint with traditional materials is that they can be scratched, and generally are capable of breaking down, and as a result they’ve done an amazing amount of research into different, more durable materials. These include hardmetal, a substance much harder than steel originally developed for tools. Rado has also developed the world’s first timepiece made from ceramic material, also as beautiful as it is durable. As if these advancements weren’t enough, this company has also produced a revolution diamond material that has the same hardest as natural diamond, a value of 10,000 Wickers. Moreover, each of these materials aren’t simply used to create ordinary pieces, but instead are used to make brilliant designs that reflect the natural beauty of state of the art technology.

Some Things We Don’t Like About Rado

While these mens watches are unquestionably elegant, the focus here seems to be on their revolutionary materials, which might not be a huge draw for some people shopping for luxury timepieces. There is almost no use of gold or silver, which for some people are truly the hallmarks of a luxury item. Diamonds are definitely still in use, but the fact remains that those looking for a traditional luxury item may not be able to find exactly what they’re looking for, largely because this company makes it a point to defy tradition whenever possible.

History of the Brand

Rado watches began with the Schlup company, a Swiss maker of fine movements for other companies. In 1957, this company first began marketing timepieces under their own name. From the beginning, they have had a dedication to a simple but unbelievable idea: the word impossible doesn’t exist. Using innovative technology, advanced research, and an open mind, this company has made a name for themselves by producing some of the most technologically advanced timepieces the world has ever seen. Their continued commitment to research and design has led them to win countless awards for the amazing work that they do.
