One of the things we love about this designer is how incredibly modern many of his designs are. To put it simply, you have to see them to believe them because it is almost impossible to imagine what he can do with a simple timepiece. One such design features a plain pewter face with no numbers, only two dials, one for the minute hand and one of the hour hand. The look is stunning, simple and absolutely groundbreaking. This is the kind of design that Issey Miyake is capable of.

Although it may sound a bit silly, one other thing that we love about these timepieces is the reaction others have to them. It has become fashionable to bash Issey Miyake watches simply because they have become so popular, so ground breaking and so universally beloved. He could release the most perfect timepiece in the history of the world and people would rush to criticise it, only because they have been programmed to. The reality is that while his time pieces may not be everyone’s cup of tea, they are surely light years ahead of what most other firms are doing.

Some Things We Didn’t Like About Issey Miyake

One of the only logical criticisms that this designer has to hear is about the price of many of his mens watches. When you are the hottest designer in the world and you can pretty much sell your next line for whatever you like, it is difficult to keep price conscious consumers in mind. After all, the fickle finger of fate could be pointing to another designer next year, which means that when you’re hot, you should probably try to make as much money as you can, while you can.

History of the Brand

It is surprising to learn how old this designer is since his designs appear to be so fresh and so new. He was born in 1938 and actually survived the dropping of the bomb in Hiroshima as a child. He began to create state of the art clothing almost as soon as he graduated from design school in 1964. Ever since, his name has been known around the world for combining technology, style and fashion in a way that no other designer before or since has.
