For more than 175 years, this name has been associated with the finest time keeping devices. Produced in the heart of the Swiss industry, Baume & Mercier watches have a reputation built on a firm foundation of consistent quality. Many other brands may claim long histories, but few can rival the number of consecutive years this exceptional company has been in business. It began as a successful family trade, grew into a highly successful partnership and has developed into an internationally recognized enterprise. The brand has survived acquisitions and mergers, reemerging stronger than ever to embrace the next century with trendsetting new styles and models.

What We Love About Baume & Mercier
This brand is a perfect example of the precision products from the Swiss Jura region famed for its timepieces. Their products are made with only the best materials like titanium, gold and stainless steel. They styling has clearly been influenced by the classic yet modern lines of European fashion. They are tastefully appointed, eye-catching without crossing the line into flashy. Choosing a model may be the most difficult part of buying this brand. Numerous options have been inspired by the many eras encompassed by the company’s long life. Some examples have an art deco feel or an antique look while others are quite modern. The 12-sided case models are particularly contemporary. They need not look outside their own extensive archives for design inspiration.
Baume & Mercier watches did not win international acclaim by making a slipshod product. They have consistently created high quality movements. Recognized in their early days, the company was awarded the prestigious Poincon de Geneve (Seal of Geneva) to mark the flawless construction of their watches. As technology has advanced, they have excelled in making products with mechanical, electronic tuning fork and quartz movements over the course of years. Some of their models are now collector’s items worth thousands of dollars. These timepieces will become an investment and a legacy to pass down.

Some Things We Don’t Like About Baume & Mercier
This brand’s understated elegance doesn’t suit the tastes of some buyers. Those who are looking for heavily embellished pieces or brightly colored fashion statements will not be satisfied with the more classic models offer by this company. There are no orange or yellow straps, no cobalt blue displays. The farthest this brand goes towards the avant-garde is the use of pink gold instead of the traditional yellow. Though the products are beautiful, they lean towards the conservative side of fashion. The price tag for one of these timepieces is not small. The legacy and the materials command a cost equal to their quality.
Company History
The legacy began sometime prior to 1834. The Baume family had already been making timepieces for some time but formed the Societe Baume Feres in that year. One of the sons of this family, William Baume, met a jeweler named Paul Mercier in 1912. By 1918 the two had joined forces in a very successful enterprise which continued until they both retired around 1937. Baume & Mercier changed hands several times beginning in 1964 when the company was bought by Piaget and ending with the Richemont Group in 1998. It was Piaget who gave the brand its trademark Phi symbol. The period of turmoil seems to have ended and the brand has reentered the luxury market with stunning new designs added to their already remarkable line.
