What we love about 01 The One

The styling of this brand goes past hip to ultra-cool. They have the functionality to be smart and the form to be stunning. They have the look and feel of a piece of modern sculpture, with sleek case lines and ever-changing lights. Each men’s watch is a small work of art. Some are covered in daring graphic prints or tonal flourishes while others are starkly modern in their lack of ornamentation. The band of each timepiece is an extension of its case, complementing the high-tech feel of the face.

The binary code-based displays have no peers in the market. Displays use LED lights in linear combinations to show the time. Some are arranged in vertical bars, others in horizontal groups. A few are so uncommon that they are difficult to identify as a watch at a distance. Even the analog displays are out of the ordinary, using dots of light instead of numerals on most models. Depending on the model, the LEDs may be monochromatic or multi-hued. They look almost like the inner workings of a sophisticated computer. As the time reading system is based on computer code language, this cannot be accidental. They could be called strange or beautiful. The one thing they cannot be called is typical.

Some things we don’t like about 01 The One

Despite the obvious cool factor of 01 The One watches, the displays do have a drawback or two. For the less technologically gifted, it may take some time to get used to get used to the idea of using binary code to decipher the current time. Even on the simpler models the wearer may have to think a little harder than they’d like, though a handful are fairly straight-forward in design. Most of the product line is far from conventional, perhaps a bit too far for the more conservative wardrobe. This isn’t the brand to wear if you need to blend in with the crowd.

History of the brand

Creator Anton Kraft first formed the idea for these mens watches back in 1998. He knew his idea was unrivaled by anything else on the market and sought legal protection for his idea. Confident in his concept, he did this at a time when the resources needed to actually produce the product did not yet exist. It was six years before he met with a production facility in Hong Kong capable of turning his idea into a marketable product. 01 The One is still rooted in his original idea of using binary code to display the time. The number 0 and 1 comprise the language of computers and it was for these two digits Kraft named his product.
